magnetic knife racks from hard drives

After I had no time to make my own prototype of a knife rack we had to find out
how to do it.

First step was to open the hard discs and to get the magnets out. Meanwhile we
were getting help from a wood workshop at plantage dock and we could use the
drill and other tools. then we - per accident - found out that the magnets
could be totally stripped from the metal part.

Frustration inbetween because we thought that the magnets are not strong enough
to go through the wood, but finally everything worked out fine and we managed
to make our own prototype.

To hold the magnets in space we used the rings from the hard disc.

Thanks for everybody's patience and help, hope you had some fun.

---------

i like to cook, i like sharp knives and i know how important it is to store them right, so they keep their sharpness.

then i saw this:

www.instructables.com/id/Wall-mounted-magnetic-knife-block/

and i want to try to make some of these magnetic knife racks at the /etc...

i still need to find out what tools will be needed, but maybe we can find all different ways to work with magnets, wood, and tools.

so see you there
