On monday, January 7th, the GenderChangers will present issues around
Privacy and Security on the Net. The venue is the Meeting Room on the
first floor of the Volkskrantgebouw, Wibautstraat 150 (just outside the
Wibautstraat metro station). We start at 14:00 and should be finished at
about 17:00 this time. Please pass on the news.

You do not need any previous experience or knowledge to be able to follow
the presentation. The workshop is free, open to all women, and will be in
English mainly but I am fluent in Dutch so clear translations will be at
hand. Bring along a laptop or two if you can.

I will demonstrate how data travels in clear text across the internet and
how encryption (PGP, GPG), certificates (CACert) and applications like Tor
and Privoxy protect your data from prying eyes. I will also demonstrate
TrueCrypt, which makes it hard for your those that get your laptop in
their posession to view your photos, letters and so on.

The afternoon will be streamed, via Text (bi-directional IRC), Audio and

Op maandag, 7 januari, zullen de GenderChangers een presentatie geven over
het beveiligen van data op je computer en gedurende je reizen over het
Net. De presentatie zal plaatsvinden in de vergaderzaal op de eerste
verdieping van het Volkskrantgebouw, Wibautstraat 150 (naast het
Wibautstraat metro station), vanaf 14:00 tot ongeveer 17:00. Laat je
vriendinnen het weten.

Je hebt geen ICT kennis of ervaring nodig om de presentatie te kunnen
volgen. De bijeenkomst is gratis, voor alle vrouwen, vooral in het Engels,
maar aangezien ik goed Nederlands kan zal alles vertaald kunnen worden.
Neem een laptop of twee mee als ja dat kan regelen.

Ik zal laten zien dat het meeste data open en bloot over het Internet
reist. Gelukkig kan je data versleutelen (met PGP, GPG), authenticeren
(met certificaten van CACert), en met programmas zoals Tor en Privoxy
annoniem maken. Met behulp van TrueCrypt kan de data op je laptop
versleutd worden, zodat, als je het verliest anderen je photos, brieven
enzovoorts niet kunnen bekijken.

De middag wordt uitgezonden op het Internet, via Text (IRC), Audio en
Video. Op onze website vindt je de nodige details.
